About the hospital
Chimala Mission Hospital is a growing hospital in a rural community in the southern highlands of Tanzania. The hospital has 128 beds with male, female, pediatrics, ante-natal, labor and post-natal wards. Because the hospital is located on the only major highway reaching from Dar Es Salaam across southern Tanzania to Malawi and Zambia, we treat many victims of motor vehicle accidents. Often times with more than 30 victims at once.
Along with one surgical room for major surgeries, we have two other treatment rooms that allow us to perform many minor procedures for those in the region:
- Dressing changes
- Casting
- Injections
- Male circumcisions
- Cervical screening
- Eye screening/treatment
Monthly averages
Every month, our hospital sees hundreds of patients for various different health issues. We continue to serve those who give birth to new babies so that they will be healthy and safe. Whether in-patient or out-patient, our patients are cared for with the utmost care.
Our in-patient monthly average is 750 with an average of 250 births (50 by c-section). We have a newly built casualty room for these cases.
Our out-patient clinic sees an average of 750 clients per month. We also perform outreach mobile clinics to various villages 15 times per month. We have one of the largest HIV clinics in the area with over 6,000 clients and our women and children’s clinic (RCH) performs services for immunizations, pre-natal checks and HIV treatments for pregnant women. We also provide dental, laboratory and x-ray services. We have just installed a new digital x-ray and are looking forward to computerizing our entire hospital in the near future.
In-patient cases (~750/month)
Births (~250/month)
Student Internships
Each year we host around 40 medical/nursing students from various countries for internships where they can learn about healthcare in a developing country. We have partnered with several Christian universities so that the students can gain valuable experience in the field.
Our staff is friendly and loves to learn as well as share our ways with everyone. If you are interested in coming to the Chimala Mission Hospital, click the link below for more information and an application packet.
